The Arsenal club is in discussions with centre back William Saliba to sign a new contract. The club is looking forward to securing a deal with the player long-term. This comes amid the interest shown by Real Madrid. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has made it clear that the club wants to secure the services of key players. Besides Saliba, the club, is also looking to lock in Bukayo Saka for a long-term deal and defensive partner Gabriel Magalhaes under the new contract. Saliba was linked with Real Madrid earlier, but in early March, he mentioned that his contract with Real Madrid was not under consideration.
"I'm really happy here. I've been here for two and a half years as well. There is nothing. I'm happy here and I want to continue here," said William Saliba recently. Initially, he said, there is "no rush" to sign a new deal as he was looking forward to doing some "big things" with Arsenal. Saliba further said, "If you leave this club without winning anything, the fans will forget about you. I want to win big things here."
Securing William Saliba might change the future of Arsenal
Dubbed as the "Bellingham of Defenders", Saliba has been the major choice for Arsenal. Over the last two seasons, Saliba played a major role in the club’s rise. He is known for a quick and calm mind during the game. Presently, Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes have created a strong bond with each other. For Arsenal, losing Saliba will be a major imbalance in the team, and replacing him could result in a higher fee. By securing his position in the team, the club would avoid getting into a contract saga.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid seems to be in no hurry to sign Saliba until 2027, but if Arsenal goes ahead with signing a new deal with the player, there will be no chance for Real Madrid. It would be worth waiting on what new deal the Gunners will offer to Saliba.
