Star fast bowler Arshdeep Singh achieved a feat in his T20I career for the India cricket team. During the ongoing T20I match against England at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, the left-arm pacer surpassed Yuzvendra Chahal to become India’s leading wicket taker in the T20I format. Arshdeep has taken two wickets in the ongoing match against England so far taking his wicket tally to 97 in the shortest format. On the other hand, Chahal has taken 96 wickets in 80 matches in his T20I career so far.

Arshdeep Singh now has 97 wickets to his name from 61 T20I matches for India. He is also the fastest bowler to reach these numbers for India in the T20Is. The left-arm had great year with the ball in 2024 where he took 36 wickets in 18 T20I matches. Arshdeep was also the joint-highest wicket taker in the 2024 T20 World Cup with 17 scalps in eight matches. He also had a great start in the year 2025 where he became India’s leading wicket taker in the T20I format.

Talking about the match, India skipper Surykumar Kumar won the toss and asked England to bat first. Arshdeep Singh gave India the first breakthrough in the first over itself as England lost first wicket without any run on board with Phil Salt getting a three-ball duck. In the third over, Arshdeep struck again as England lost second wicket at the score of 17 runs. After that, English skipper Jos Buttler took charge of the innings and went on to play a captain’s knock.

Jos Buttler and Harry Brook added 48 runs for the third wickets as England were looking to recover after early breakthroughs. After that, Varun Chakrvarthy struck twice in the eighth overs as England were reduced to 65/4. However, Buttler went on to play a fighting knock and complete his fifty in 34 deliveries. At the time of writing the English skipper is still at the crease as the visitors have lost six wickets under 100 runs.
