World number 2 ranked tennis player Aryna Sabalenka has decided to pull out of the Charleston Open 2023. This decision comes after the Belarusian player sustained an injury during the Miami Open 2023. The 24-year-old recently won the first Grand Slam of the year in the Australian Open earlier this year, beating Elena Rybakina 6-4, 3-6, 4-6.

The tennis star sustained this injury during her second match against Shelby Rogers. She felt some uneasiness in her leg and asked for a medical timeout in the middle of the match.

Sabalenka took to Twitter to announce her withdrawal from the tournament stating that her leg needs some rest. “Sad to announce that I have to withdraw from Charleston. I picked up an injury during one of my matches in Miami and I need time to rest and heal,” she said.

"I'm so sorry to the tournament and the fans. I was really looking forward to being back and playing in front of you all," she further added.

The Belarusian tennis champion lost to Romania’s Sorana Cirstea in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Miami Open. She had reached the quarterfinals of the tournament after taking down former French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova in two straight sets 6-3, 6-2.
