Preview

Both Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are coming on the back of a defeat. Both teams lost their opening fixtures against Afghanistan. Now, with a place in Super 4s at stake, it is going to be a neck-to-neck battle between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. While a win will help either of the teams to advance to the next round, a loss will knock them out of the tournament. Both Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have multiple concerns to address. It will be interesting to see who blinks first when the two teams meet on Thursday. 

Pitch Report

The Dubai pitch has behaved like a typical UAE surface so far. Scoring has not been easy with the wicket being sticky in the early part of the games. Although India registered a high score in the last match played at the venue, it was tough for the batters to hit through the line. So, the same is expected in the game between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka were completely outdone by Afghanistan in their first game of the tournament. The team could not even play their full quota of 20 overs and were bundled out for a mere 105. The target was then chased by Afghanistan in almost half the number of balls faced by Sri Lanka. The batting performance from Sri Lanka was nothing less than horrible. Barring Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Chamika Karunaratne, none of the Sri Lanka batters showed any intent. Dasun Shanaka has no other choice than to trust these players to do the job for the team in the do-or-die encounter. The spin duo of Theekshana and Hasaranga will be crucial for the Lankans.

The story was not much different for Bangladesh as well. The only difference was that they managed to put 20 more runs on the board. Barring that, it was the same story as Sri Lanka’s for the Tigers. Their batters simply had no answers to the spin twin of Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid Khan. Bangladesh lost wickets in clusters within the powerplay and never recovered from there. Mosaddek Hossain showed some fight and propelled the team to a good total. But then the Zadran brothers were ready with their swords out. With so many winners in the team, Bangladesh will fancy their chances against Sri Lanka but it will be an uphill task.

Conclusion

Although Sri Lanka looked more hapless against Afghanistan, the Dasun Shanka-led team has got all the required resources to beat Bangladesh who may panic in a do-or-die game.
