Preview

India had a terrific outing in the group stage of the Asia Cup 2022. The Men in Blue defeated arch-rivals Pakistan and then Hong Kong to comfortably qualify for the Super 4s. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka pipped Bangladesh in a thriller to advance to the second round of the continental tournament. The Dasun Shanaka-led team then avenged their defeat in the group stage against Afghanistan by beating them in their first match of the Super 4 stage. They now have a tough opponent in India. It will be interesting to see if the Lankans can produce an upset and beat India.

Pitch Report

The Dubai pitch has behaved like a typical UAE surface so far. Scoring has not been easy with the wicket being sticky in the early part of the games. However, the pitches at the venue are settling a tad as the tournament is progressing. Therefore, a good game is expected where the batters will have their say but spinners will also play a crucial role in the middle overs.

Team Analysis

India

The Rohit Sharma-led has looked good so far with the players stepping up on requires occasions. However, India have dealt a major blow with their star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja getting ruled out of the entire tournament. Although Axar Patel has been called to join the squad, Jadeja will surely be missed. Also, KL Rahul’s form has been a worry so far. The opening batter has not looked in his best touch. The same has been with captain Rohit Sharma. He has got starts but a big score is yet to come.

The bowling is a bit inexperienced too. Except for Bhuvenshwar Kumar, the other bowlers have not been that effective. Arshdeep and Avesh need to get back on track. Yuzvendra Chahal also needs to get wickets.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka are putting up a fight every time they are taking the field. Be it the group stage game against Bangladesh or the Super 4 stage game against Afghanistan, the Dasun Shanaka-led team never looked completely out of ideas. Dasun Shanaka has been the leader Sri Lanka has been searching for a while. The others are chipping in too. Kusal Mendis, Danushka Gunathilaka, Pathum Nissanka, Chamika Karunaratne, Wanindu Hasaranga, Asitha Fernando, and all others, Sri Lanka are playing like a team. An example of it was exhibited in their game against Afghanistan where everyone chipped in. The Lankans are high on confidence and just need to stick to their strengths if they are to beat India.
