The original match day had a 90-minute push for a result. But after the first rain delay, the match was ready for a restart with the umpires waiting for one patch of the ground to dry. But with continued rainfall, the ground couldn't reach a satisfactory condition and the match was called off.

Talking about the reserve day, the weather forecast seems similar on Monday as well. Colombo can expect some thundershowers and precipitation ranging between 40-50%. Hence, if the game is abandoned on the Reserve Day as well, the teams will share one point each and the contest will go down as a ‘No Result’.

Coming back to the Indian innings, openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill lit up the R.Premadasa Stadium with a blistering start. Shrugging away demons from India's previous match against Pakistan, Sharma and Gill posted a massive 121-run partnership. But after both batters departed, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, steadied the ship, before the match was halted due to rain.
