Indian women’s team have clinched a bronze medal in the recurve archery event after a hard-fought battle against Vietnam in the Asian Games 2023, at the Fuyang Yinhu Sports Centre Final Field. On October 6, Saturday, the Indian women’s team of Ankita Bhakat, Bhajan Kaur, and Simranjeet Kaur defeated their Vietnamese counterparts by 6-2 to secure yet another medal for Team India in archery.

The first set of the contest went to the Indian trio with a margin of 56-52, but Thi Anh Nguyet Do, Thi Thanh Nhi Nguyen, Phuong Thao Hoang of Vietnam struck right back after securing the second set by 56-55. Then, the third set belonged firmly to Ankita Bhakat, Bhajan Kaur, and Simranjeet Kaur, who took it comfortably with a margin of 57-50.

The fourth set wasn’t too dissimilar when the standards of the Vietnamese trio dropped massively, which led to Indians cruising it by 51-48. The overall scoreline for the bronze medal match read 219-206 in favour of Ankita Bhakat, Bhajan Kaur, and Simranjeet Kaur.

With this impressive performance from the Indian women’s team in the recurve event, the tally of medals reached four for the country in archery at the Asian Games 2023, which includes three golds. Team India are expected to bring at least three more medals from this sport, including two from the all-Indian men’s compound archery individual final between Ojas Pravin Deotale and Abhishek Verma, while in the women’s side, Jyothi Surekha Vennam will compete against Chaewon So of South Korea.
