Ojas Pravin Deotale and Abhishek Verma have won their semi-final round of matches in the men’s compound archery individual event to assure gold-silver for India at the Asian Games 2023. On October 3, Tuesday, at the Fuyang Yinhu Sports Centre Final Field, the top of the top Indian compound archers got the better of the highly fancied South Korean opponents to reach the final, which will be played in four days' time in Hangzhou.

In the semi-final of men’s compound archery individual event against Jeawon Yang of South Korea, the world champion Ojas Pravin Deotale registered a perfect score of 150, to get the better of his opponent, who could only muster up 146 points. Earlier, in the quarter final, the Indian defeated Akbarali Karabayev of Kazakhstan with a margin of 150-142 at the Asiad.

On the other side of the draw, Abhishek Verma won his semi-final match against Jaehoon Joo of South Korea by 147-145 scoreline. At one point in his quarter-final match earlier, the 34-year-old was struggling massively against Andrey Tyutyun, but he levelled the score at 147-147 before securing a win in the shoot off.

Jyothi Surekha Vennam assures silver for India in women’s compound archery individual event

Jyothi Surekha Vennam defeated her teammate and the world champion Aditi Gopichand Swami in the semi-final of the women’s compound archery individual event, to assure a silver medal for India at the Asian Games 2023. The 27-year-old got the better of her fellow Indian at the Fuyang Yinhu Sports Centre Final Field, with a margin of 149-146 on October 3, Tuesday.

The gold medal match of the women’s compound archery individual event at the Asiad will be played on October 7, between Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Chaewon So of South Korea. Just prior, the bronze medal match will have Aditi Gopichand Swami compete against Ratih Zilizati Fadhly of Indonesia.
