On September 29, Friday, the Indian women’s hockey team thumped Malaysia 6-0 in the Pool A match at the Asian Games 2023, to stay unbeaten in the competition after their first two outings. At the Gongshu Canal Sports Park Stadium in Hangzhou, there were six different players on the scoresheet for Team India, who dominated a very good Malaysian team on the pitch.

For the unversed, Indian women obliterated their opponents in the first quarter of the match, getting four goals in the process. Monika opened the scoring in the 7th minute, before Deep Grace Ekka converted the penalty corner in the 8th minute to double the lead for the inaugural champions of Asian Games in women’s hockey.

Just three minutes later, Navneet Kaur put the ball in the back of the net to give Team India the three-goal cushion. Before the first quarter ended, Vaishnavi Phalke managed to put the team 4-0 ahead in the 15th minute, off the penalty corner.

The Indian women’s hockey team controlled the pace of the match in the next three quarters, not allowing Malaysia to dictate terms at any stage. The fifth goal arrived in the 24th minute through Sangeeta Kumari, before the sixth and final goal of the contest was scored by Lalremsiami in the 50th minute.

With this emphatic win, India are leading the Pool A of the women’s hockey competition in the Asian Games, ahead of South Korea on goal difference (+8). They had beaten Singapore 13-0 to start their campaign in Hangzhou on a fantastic note two days ago.
