India are taking on Iran in the gold medal match at the ongoing Asian Games 2023. The match which saw India leading at the halftime mark 17-13, but Iran forced all-out with the match going into further suspension at a later mark.

This incident took place after the resumption post halftime with Iran coming out strong and level the scores with India at 28-28. With just 1.51 minutes to go, the drama broke out as India went for a do-or-die raid. The Men in Blue just needed a point in the raid and Pawan was dashed out with the point going in Iran’s favour.

But as the referees had a close watch on the recap, Iran were handed the point with Pawan, who went for the raid said that he went out of bound without any touch, which means India might get a few points as Iran’s defenders also went out with him. This moment got enough hyped out as even the Indian side saw intervention of coaching staff.

However one point was rewarded to each India and Iran as Pawan went out of the bounds. As per the ruling of the game, India should get four points as Pawan went out without touching, but as per the new rule, only one point will be awarded. Seeing this, a point was awarded to both the sides, with the cores reading 29-29. Things turned haywire as the referees awarded four points to India but the opponents sat in protest.  

However after several wait of minutes, the decision went in favour of India as according to the rule no. 28, “If a defender or defenders who has/ have touched the ground outside the boundary (as per rule 5), hold a raider, the raider will be declared NOT OUT. The defender or defenders who have gone out of bounds only will be declared out.

The Pawan Sherawat-led side took the gold after minutes of resumption to finally end the drama on high as they beat Iran 33-29.
