The most successful team in ODI World Cup history, Australia will hope to clinch their sixth title in the upcoming 2023 World Cup in India. The Aussies have had a turbulent time since their previous 50-over World Cup triumph in 2015 as the team has been hit with multiple controversies. But these tremors have steadied down after they lifted the T20 World Cup in 2021.

This positive turn saw a hiccup with a poor performance in the 2022’s T20 World Cup which was held in Australia. But the Kangaroos have since buckled down and bagged their 11th ICC trophy in June 2023 as they defeated India to win their maiden World Test Championship. Hence as mighty Australia will travel to India for the World Cup, where the five-time champions will certainly be among the favourites to win it all.

So moving ahead towards the 2023 World Cup, SportsTiger makes an early prediction of a possible 20-man Australian squad for the marquee tournament.

Batters: David Warner, Travis Head, Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Tim David

The Australian team has always had some hard-hitting batters, especially at the top and this time the left-handed duo of David Warner and Travis Head will open the innings. Despite Warner failing to put on a consistent run in 2023, he was the team’s highest ODI run-scorer last year and his experience of playing in pressure games could be valuable for the team. Whereas his partner, Travis Head has been in scintillating form and will hope to carry forward his form in the 50-over format.

After openers, the likes of Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne will bolster the team’s middle order. With both being among the best batters in the world, expectations to score big runs will be extremely high from this duo. Finishing off the batters' list, Tim David could be a big addition to the squad as he has been a reliable finisher in T20 cricket and his recent exploits in the IPL could allow him to be Australia’s X-factor.
