The first Grand Slam of the year, Australian Open 2024 is set to begin on January 14, Sunday in Melbourne, Australia. The tournament, like each edition, will have top tennis stars fighting to clinch the title trophy. The forthcoming edition of the Grand Slam will see a return of tennis stars, Rafael Nadal and Naomi Osaka. While both Nadal and Osaka will hope for a favourable comeback tournament, 24-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic will aim for a record-breaking 25th win. 

The Grand Slam is slated to conclude with the women’s singles final will be played on Saturday, January 27, followed by the men’s singles final on Sunday, January 28. A total of 128 players will compete in both men’s and women’s singles. Out of those players, 104 players qualified directly while 16 players came from qualifiers, and eight players were given wildcard entries. 

Former world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki is one of the names who received wild cards for the Australian Open 2024. She was named as a wild card alongside Kimberly Birrell, Olivia Gadecki, Taylah Preston, and Alize Cornet in the women’s singles draw. On the men’s side, James Duckworth, Marc Polmans, Adam Walton, and Arthur Cazaux have received wild cards in the men’s singles draw.

The top-seeded players of the tournament are likely to be the 24-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic in the men’s singles. In the women’s singles, Iga Swiatek will be the No.1 seed. Djokovic is the defending men’s singles Australian Open champion, while Aryna Sabalenka is the defending women’s singles champion at the Australian Open. 

Talking about the most Australian Open title winners, Novak Djokovic has won 10 men’s singles titles, winning his maiden title in 2008. Margaret Court has won 11 women’s singles titles at her home slam, by winning her first title in 1960. In the Open Era, Serena Williams has seven women’s singles titles.
