India top shuttler and two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu got knocked out of the Australian Open badminton BWF Super 500 tournament on August 4, Friday. Fifth seed Sindhu lost her women’s singles quarter-final clash with fourth seed Beiwen Zhang of USA. In a match that lasted for 39 minutes, the Indian star went down to her Chinese-American rival 12-21, 17-21.

Sindhu and Zhang were tied in the second game at 16-16 and Sindhu tried to make amendments in the game. However, her effort fell short as the World Number 12 snatched the possibility of moving for a decider and won the game.

This was the fifth time that Sindhu got defeated to Zhang in their 11 meetings.  In the men’s singles category, sixth seed HS Prannoy took down Indonesia’s Anthony Sinisuka Ginting 16-21, 21-17, 21-14 in the men's singles quarter-final clash.

Meanwhile, Kidambi Srikanth’s lost his men's singles quarterfinal clash to compatriot Priyanshu Rajawat by 13-21, 8-21. Rajawat has made it to the maiden Super 500 semifinal as he took down former World No. 1. It will be an all-Indian semifinal as Prannoy will lock horns with Rajawat in the upcoming clash. Rajawat has already won the Orleans Masters BWF Super 300 title earlier this year.
