The team which roared in international cricket on the back of strong performances from Virat Kohli, is trying to find its new heroes. It is due to Kohli's disappointing form in the recent months, or in fact a couple of years. The former skipper is often failing to convert his starts into big ones and lately has been falling for underwhelming scores, managing 1 and 11 in the second and third T20Is against England respectively.

Many questions have been raised by cricket pundits and former cricketers on the 33-year-old cricketer's form. While some experts want him to take a long break and come back, others want him to keep playing until he finds his lost form.

Before the final T20I against England on Sunday former cricketer Kapil Dev had raised the question that if Ravichandran Ashwin can be dropped from the Test side, why can't Virat be sacked from the T20I side. Further ICC had posted a statement of the 1983 World Cup-winning captain on Instagram in which the former all-rounder seemed to be questioning Kohli's place in the Indian T20 World Cup 2022 squad.

“Play in-form players when you have loads of options. You cannot just go by reputation, but you have to look for the current form. You can be an established player but that does not mean that you will be given chances even if you fail five games in a row,” ICC quoted Kapil Dev as saying to social media.

The Australian opener Usman Khawaja was quick to reply to ICC's post, which read, “Averages 50 at almost 140. Good call. Australia Agrees."

Usman Khawaja took a jibe at Dev, and hailed this move for the defending champions, as they will not have to face the wrath of Kohli.

The comment was certainly a key reminder of Kohli's tremendous contribution to Indian Cricket over the years. In 99 T20Is, he has 3308 runs at an average of 50.12 and a strike rate of 137.66.
