Wo rld Championships bronze medallist and Olympian B. Sai Praneeth on Monday night (March 4) announced his retirement from international badminton. The 31-year-old, who hails from Hyderabad, announced his decision to hang his racquet after battling injuries since the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
Taking to social media, the Indian shuttler called of curtains to his 24-year-long career stating, “With a mix of emotions, I pen down these words to bid farewell and announce my retirement from the sport that has been my lifeblood for over 24 overs. Today, as I embark on a new chapter, I find myself overwhelmed with gratitude for the journey that brought me here.”
The former World No. 10 ranked shuttler while announcing his future plans also thanked his fans, family, friends and everyone who has been a part of his badminton journey. While he called the sport his “first love, constant companion”, he extended his special regards for his family and coach Pullela Gopichand. “To my family - my grandparents, parents, and my loving wife @swethajayanthi - your endless encouragement has been the bedroack of my success,” he said. “A heartfelt thank you to @gopichandpullela anna, the Gopichand Academy, and the entire coaching and support staff,” he further added.
B Sai Praneeth to join as Head Coach of Triangle Badminton Academy in US
Now a former Indian shuttler, B Sai Praneeth also revealed his future plans while announcing his retirement from professional badminton. The 31-year-old will now move to the United States to join the Triangle Badminton Academy as the Head Coach.
“I will be joining mid-April. I will be the head coach of the club. So, I will be overseeing all the players there. Of course, once I am there, we will discuss elaborately about the role,” Praneeth told PTI.
Apart from B Sai Praneeth, Shlok Ramchandran and Mohammed Siyadath Ullah will also move to the US. While Siyadath will unite with the Oregon Badminton Academy, former doubles specialist Shlok will join the Synergy Badminton Academy in California
