After a bizarre act from a player in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) 2025 match, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has launched an investigation in regard to suspected match-fixing. The incident was involving batter Minhajul Abedin of Shinepukur Cricket Club while playing against Gulshan Cricket Club in a run chase when they needed seven runs in seven overs, but only with a wicket in hand, he was dismissed stumped while having a chance to ground his bat, costing the match for his team.
Notably, Minhajul Abedin advanced down the track to a delivery from Gulshan Cricket Club bowler, who threw it wide outside the off stump of the batter after seeing his movement in his bowling run-up. As the wicket-keeper gathered the ball cleanly to get rid of the stumps, Minhajul Abedin, who had enough time to put his bat inside the crease, dragged his bat outside of the crease instead, giving the wicket-keeper the chance to dismiss him on his second attempt after missing it completely the first-time.
The BCB wishes to reiterate its firm commitment to upholding the integrity of the game: Statement reads
After the fans of Bangladesh cricket called out the players for potential match-fixing, the BCB took note of the incident, and launched the investigation, while pointing out their zero-tolerance policy. Their statement read, “The BCB wishes to reiterate its firm commitment to upholding the integrity of the game and maintaining the highest ethical standards in cricket. The Board has a zero-tolerance policy toward any form of corruption or misconduct that may compromise the spirit of the sport.”
“The BCB Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) and the League's Technical Committee have promptly initiated an investigation into the alleged irregularities associated with the match. The BCB remains committed to ensuring fairness and discipline in all cricketing activities under its jurisdiction and will take the necessary actions based on the findings of the investigation,” the statement further added.
Moreover, it is important to note that the DPL has been surrounded by rumours of match-fixing in the past as well, which is why the current incident could prove to be so.
