The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will reportedly announce India’s squad for the ICC Men’s T20I World Cup 2024 in the last week of April. According to reports, the cricket governing body will reveal the squad either on April 27 or on April 28 in Delhi. The 2024 season of the marquee global tournament is scheduled from June 2 (IST) to June 29 in the USA or the West Indies. India will kick off their campaign on June 5 against Ireland.
According to Dainik Jagran, Since the teams are required to submit their squads by May 1, the BCCI selectors will meet on either April 27 or April 28 to pick India’s squad for the World Cup 2024. India skipper and seasoned opener Rohit Sharma will be in Delhi as Mumbai Indians are slated to play Delhi Capitals on April 27. Hence, April 27 and April 28 are the most suitable dates to finalise the squad. Not only this, but BCCI’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar will also return from Spain to Delhi around these dates, while other selectors will also travel to the national capital for the same.
Ten players almost certain to fly to USA for the T20 WC'24
Several reports have stated that almost ten players are almost certain to be picked in India’s squad for the tournament. The names include skipper Rohit Sharma, batter Virat Kohli, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Arshdeep Singh, Rishabh Pant, Mohammed Siraj. If these players are fit around the tournament, they are almost likely to fly to the USA for the World Cup.
Speaking about others, Hardik Pandya’s selection in the squad is subject to his performance in the IPL 2024. The all-rounder hasn’t been able to do much in the season so far. On the other hand, one of Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal is likely to travel to the USA with the team. If the BCCI picks both of them, one of Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh will be selected.
Names like Axar Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Ravi Bishnoi are leading the race in the spinners’ department.
