Ben Stokes, one of the best fast bowling all-rounders in modern-day cricket, is in consideration for England’s white-ball captaincy after Jos Buttler stepped down, following a disappointing ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign. According to Ron Key, ECB’s Director of men’s cricket, it would be “stupid” not to consider Stokes as a potential captain of England's struggling 50-over side, while their T20I team aren't doing much better either.
Notably, the all-rounder has not played any ODI match for England since the 2023 ODI World Cup in India. His Champions Trophy 2025 participation was marred by a hamstring injury. The 33-year-old is currently recovering from his injury with the England Lions training group in Abu Dhabi.
Ben Stokes has played a total of 267 matches for England across formats, scoring 10,767 runs, including 18 centuries. In ODIs, he has scored 3463 runs with an average of 41.22 in 114 matches, while smashing 585 runs in 43 T20I matches.
He is one of the key contributors to England's victory in the 2019 Cricket World Cup. The all-rounder scored 456 runs with a 66.42 average and took seven wickets in 11 matches. He was also named “Player of the Match” for his match-winning inning of unbeaten 84 runs off 98 balls in the final against New Zealand. Stokes also played an important role in England's T20 World Cup 2022 victory, where he played a crucial inning of 52 not out in 49 balls in a low-scoring final against Pakistan.
Below are the detailed statistical record of Ben Stokes' ODI and T20I careers, both in batting and bowling.
