In a statement, the company explained that while the idea received strong interest, the current situation in Indian esports does not fully support the large scale and impact they had planned for the tournament.
Krafton India said, "After careful consideration, we have decided not to move forward with the BGMI Franchise League at this time. Our commitment to Indian esports remains unwavering, and efforts will continue to focus on initiatives that foster talent, engage the community, and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the ecosystem. The franchise model remains a part of our long-term vision and may be revisited as the landscape evolves."
However, they also confirmed that the BGMI Franchise League could return in the future when the esports landscape in India becomes more favorable for such a large-scale project.
