Bhowneesh Mendiratta has successfully secured India's first Paris Olympics quota in shooting at the ISSF Shotgun World Championship in Osijek, Croatia after finishing 4th overall in the men's Trap final. Notably, Mendiratta topped his ranking round, with a near-perfect score of 24/25 in the shooting which also guided him to book his berth in the Paris 2024 berth.

Although Mendiratta has secured the Olympic quota, he will participate in in-house trials which will be conducted ahead of the quarterfinal showpiece and if he does well there, he will be able to finalise his name in the Olympic line-up. Earlier, Mendiratta was pitted against Olympians, Derrick Scott Mein of USA, AL-Athaba Rashid Hamad SA of Qatar and Aron Heading of England in his ranking match.

The 23-year-old was making his first senior World Championship appearance, having previously played just the solitary senior World Cup in Changwon, Korea, where he clinched silver this year.

After the conclusion of day two of their competition, India's Prithviraj Tondiman and Bhowneesh Mendiratta, shot identical scores of 96 after four rounds of qualification ended on Tuesday.

Earlier in 2019, Mendiratta won two gold medals at the ninth Asian Shotgun Championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan in the junior men's trap and the team event. The student of Sri Venkateshwara College who lives in Faridabad, qualified on top in the junior men's trap with 116, after he defeated Li Siwei of China 44-41.
