India and Australia locked horns in the first match of the three-match T20I series on Tuesday (20 September) and Aaron Finch-led Australia comfortably took the game as they beat India by four wickets. Such was the dominance from Australian batters that they chased down the total with four balls left. Four of India’s bowlers conceded more than 12 runs per over including Yuzvendra Chahal and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

After posting a massive 208 on the board, it seemed India will walk away with the game comfortably. But Australia showed why they are the world champions. They threw a surprise at India in the form of Cameron Green who came to open the innings with Aaron Finch. The all-rounder scored a quickfire 61 off just 30 balls and set the platform for the big chase.

Green’s inning was perfectly backed by contributions from almost every batter. Steve Smith (35 off 24), Aaron Finch (22 off 13), and Matthew Wade (45* off 21) were the prime helpers. Wade played a blinder at the fag end of the innings as he thrashed Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Harshal Patel all around the park and sealed the deal for Australia.

With India failing to defend a score of 150+ for the third time in three weeks, Indian cricket fans looked furious as they shared their reaction post the game. Most of them looked unhappy with Rohit Sharma’s decision to bowl the 19th over with Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan also joined the bandwagon suggesting Bhuvi should be given only one over in the last five overs.
