Preview

In the 18th match of Big Bash League 2022-23, Melbourne Renegades will be up against Sydney Sixers. Both teams have fared decently so far in the season. While Renegades have managed to win three out of four matches played, Sydney Sixers have won two out of the four played so far. However, the two teams will be meeting for the first time this season and will be backing to make the most of the opportunity presented. It will be interesting to see if better-placed Renegades win the contest or if Sydney Sixers surprise them.

Pitch Report

The pitch at Sydney Cricket Ground is known to aid batters. With even bounce and carry on the surface, batters can easily play through the line and score runs at a brisk rate. Meanwhile, bowlers can make use of the longer boundaries to deceive their counterparts.

Team Analysis

Sydney Sixers

Sydney Sixers have turned their fortunes around after consecutive defeats in their first two games. They have defeated Melbourne Stars and Hobart Hurricanes to bring two wins on the trot. In their last game against Melbourne Stars, Sydney Sixers registered a comprehensive win (by seven wickets) to move up the ladder. Captain Moises Henriques scored a brisk half-century (52* off 32 balls) after Sixers’ bowlers combined to restrict Melbourne to 150/5. Jordan Silk also scored a run-a-ball 30. Kurtis Patterson (24 off 21) and James Vince (33 off 28) also chipped in. Now, with a better-placed Melbourne Renegades pitted against them, the Sixers face the challenge to maintain their streak.

Melbourne Renegades

Nic Maddinson-led Melbourne Renegades suffered a gut-wrenching defeat at the hands of Hobart Hurricanes as they were bowled out for only 114. With this defeat, the Renegades’ three-match winning streak was also broken and now they will have to start over. Their bowlers had done a great job against the Hurricanes, bowling out the opposition for 122. Akeal Hosein and David Moody bagged three wickets each while Andre Russell scalped two wickets. But the batters failed to chase it down. Will Sutherland (40 off 29) and Jonathan Wells (26 off 33) tried to push the team over the line but got no support from others. Now, after such a defeat, it will be a real test for the Renegades against the Sixers.
