Cricket South Africa on Tuesday announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, which will be played in Australia next month. Temba Bavuma will lead the side while youngster Tristan Stubbs has also been included in the squad.
South Africa are the third team after England and Australia to announce their squad for the prestigious ICC T20 World Cup 2022, taking place from October 16 to November 13.
Meanwhile, South African batter Rassie van der Dussen has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup squad due to injury. Apart form these, Bjorn Fortuin, Marco Jansen, Andile Phehlukwayo have been included as travelling reserves.
South Africa Squad:
Temba Bavuma (C), Quinton de Kock, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Reeza Hendricks, Keshav Maharaj, Henrich Klaasen, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Lungi Ngidi, Wayne Parnell, Dwaine Pretorius, Rilee Rossouw, Tabraiz Shamsi and Tristan Stubbs.
A total of 16 teams are participating in the 8th edition of the ICC men's T20 World Cup in Australia. South Africa are one of the eight teams, who have already qualified for the Super 12 stage.
The other eight teams include Sri Lanka, West Indies, Namibia and Scotland, which are 9th to 12th ranked teams in ICC rankings while Ireland, Netherlands, Zimbabwe and UAE are included through global qualifiers. These are divided into two groups:
Group A: Sri Lanka, Namibia, Netherlands, UAE
Group B: West Indies, Scotland, Ireland, Zimbabwe
South Africa are placed in the Super 12- Group 2 alongside India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh while the two remaining positions will be filled by the Group B winner and the Group A runner up.
