Jos Buttler-led England have been handed a massive setback ahead of their crucial Champions Trophy 2025 clash against Afghanistan. The Three Lions will miss the services of bowling all-rounder Brydon Carse, who has been ruled out of the tournament due to a toe injury.

The 29-year-old was last seen playing in the national jersey when England took on Australia on Saturday, February 22 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Although, he was seen strugglign with a recurring left toe issue, forcing him to miss the training on Monday, February 24. Seeing this, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on confirmed their decision on the bowling all-rounder.

The ECB also stated that the 29-year-old will return to London for further assessment, they have added the 20-year-old leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed into the side as Carse’s replacement. It is to be noted that the English all-rounder had been a key seam-bowling option for the side but his toe issue has been lingering concern, thus ruling him out from the final two ODIs against India earlier.

Speaking of Rehan Ahmed, the 20-year-old is not expected to arrive in Pakistan before England’s scheduled Champions Trophy match against Afghanistan on February 26. However, he will join the squad later this week. Highlighting the Three Lions’ performance, they will have a daunting task as they look for a win against the Afghan Atalans aftergoing down by five wickets against Australia.
