India’s men’s doubles pair of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy signed of with a bronze medal at the BWF World Championships 2022. The young duo claimed their maiden bronze medal at the World Championships after going down to Malaysian pair of Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik.


The World No. 7 pair took an opening game advantage 22-20 and then went down 18-21, 16-21 in a 77-minute clash in the semifinals on Saturday. This defeat brought an end to India’s challenge at the prestigious tournament.


Notably, it was the Indian pairs sixth successive defeat against the Malaysian duo. However, the Indian pair of Shetty and Rankireddy recently clinched a gold at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022, defeating England’s pair Ben Lane and Sean Vendy 21-15, 21-13.


Talking about their campaign in the in the World Championships, Satwik-Chriag pair knocked out defending champions Takura Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi of Japan in the quarterfinal match to reach last 4. They beat second-seeded Japanese pair 24-22, 15-21, 21-14 in last 8 match, which went on for an hour and 15 minutes.
