After World No. 9 ranked Indian shuttler HS Prannoy and compatriot Lakshya Sen advanced into Round two of the ongoing BWF World Championships, Kidambi Srikanth on the other hand, faced an early exit. The former World No. 1 suffered a fi rst-round exit in the ongoing BWF World Championships as he lost to Kenta Nishimoto in Copenhagen late on August 21.

 

The 30-year-old got defeated in straight games 21-14, 21-14 with the 14-ranked Japanese player advancing into the second round. In a match which lasted for around 47 minutes saw Srikanth struggle as he failed to build the momentum and was outplayed convincingly.

 

Talking about the other shuttlers, Lakshya Sen beat Mauritius’ Georges Julien Paul in the first round. The Indian took down his Mauritian opponent 21-12, 21-7 in just 25 minutes to set up his Round 2 clash against Hyeok Jin Jeon of Korea. On the other hand, HS Prannoy beat Finland’s Kalle Kojonen 24-22, 21-10 in a match that lasted for 43 minutes.  The World No. 9 will next face Chico Aura of Indonesia on August 22.

 

Among other Indians, the mixed doubles pair of Rohan Kapoor and Sikki Reddy also failed to make a mark as they got down against the Scotland duo of Adam Hall and Julie Macpherson 21-14, 20-22, 21-18.
