After shining at the 2022 Commonwealth Games Indian shuttler are eyeing glory at the World Championships and their campaign has started on a good note as most of them progressed to the next round on Day 1. CWG gold medalist and bronze medalist Lakshya Sen and Kidambi Srikanth defeated their respective opponents in the R64 match to enter the second round. Meanwhile, HS Prannoy also entered R32.

India’s day started with the women’s doubles pair of Ashwini Ponappa and N Sikki Reddy defeating Maldives’ pair of Aminath Nabeeha and Fatimath Nabaaha in just 21 minutes. Sikki Reddy and Ponappa beat their opponent in straight sets of 21-7, 21-9. However, B Sai Praneeth lost to fourth seed Chou Tien Chen in India’s second match of the day. Praneeth lost 15-21, 21-15, 15-21.

Nonetheless, Indian ace shuttler Lakshya Sen lived up to his reputation and continued his winning run in the BWF World Championships. He sailed past Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinghus of Denmark without having to break a sweat in straight sets with a scoreline of 21-12, 21-11 in 35 minutes. Kidambi Srikanth also continued his good run and defeated Nhat Nguyen of Ireland in straight sets to progress to the next round.
