Cadillac, the US car giant General Motors’ luxury brand, is all set to be the 11th team on the Formula One (F1) grid in the 2026 season after meeting the specific requirements of the FIA and Formula One management. The Cadillac Formula 1 Team - backed by TWG Motorsports and General Motors (GM) - will be part of the grid next year just two months after General Motors reached an agreement in principle with F1.

Notably, it was last year when F1 had rejected a bid from the US team Andretti to be the 11th team on the grid, who are owned and operated by General Motors. Although, GM made a new proposal with greater commitment with their different brand in the later part of 2024, convincing F1 to approve Cadillac’s admission into the sport, as per the report from BBC Sport.

I want to thank GM and TWG for their constructive engagement over many months: F1 President

The Cadillac Formula 1 Team, based in the UK, is going to be jointly operated by GM and TWG Motorsports, with Dan Towriss of Andretti and Mark Walter of TWG Motorsports being the other key investors. In his official statement on the matter, F1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali said, “As we said in November, the commitment by General Motors to bring a Cadillac team to F1 was an important and positive demonstration of the evolution of our sport.”

“I want to thank GM and TWG for their constructive engagement over many months and look forward to welcoming the team on the grid from 2026 for what will be another exciting year for Formula 1,” he further remarked. Moreover, the reason for F1 to approve the Cadillac bid after rejecting the Andretti one was the key factors in terms of fulfilling the sporting, technical, and commercial requirements.
