On Sunday, June 8, World No. 2, Carlos Alcaraz defeated the top-seeded Jannik Sinner in the summit clash of the French Open 2025 and defended his title at the Court Philippe Chatrier. Coming into the final after his Italian opponent, Lorenzo Musetti retired due to an injury in the semi-final, the Spaniard continued his clay court brilliance as he prevailed over the World No. 1.

During the course of the match, which lasted for five hours and 29 minutes, the Spaniard overcame a daunting two-set deficit and saved three match points in a marathon battle to take the game away from the top ranked player, 4-6, 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-6(3), 7-6 (10-2).

The Spanish international, who boasts of a better head-to-head record against the Italian international, having now won five straight games against Sinner, showed reserves of energy and willpower to deny Sinner his third consecutive Grand Slam title in what was the greatest-ever Grand Slam finals and also the longest French Open final ever played.

Although, the 22-year-old fell against Sinner in the opening two sets, but Alcaraz’s unyielding spirit shone as he clawed back, winning the third set and dominating a tense fourth-set tiebreak to force it into a decider. The fifth and final set was a nail-biter but Alcaraz showed composure and clinched it in a decisive tiebreak 10-2.

With a win on Sunday, Alcaraz bagged his fifth Grand Slam title, extending his unbeaten streak in major finals to five. Moreover, the Spaniard became the third youngest man to fin five Grand Slams, joining Bjorn Borg and Rafael Nadal.
