On Friday, May 23, former world number four, Caroline Garcia announced retirement from professional tennis. Garcia, who has been in competitive tennis for past 15 years, confirmed that the upcoming 2025 French Open, which is set to be played from May 25 till June 8, will be her final Gland Slam appearance in the French capital.
The 31-year-old French international, who is currently ranked 145, is set to appear in hier 14 th consecutive French Open, where she will face Bernarda Pera in the opening round. The veteran tennis player took to social media to confirm her decision of calling it quits from the game.

In a social media post on X, Garcia began, “Dear tennis, It’s time to say goodbye. After 15 years competing at the highest level, and more than 25 years putting pretty much every second of my life into it, I feel ready to start a new chapter.” “My tennis journey hasn’t always been easy. Since my early days, tennis has been much more than just winning or losing. It’s been love or hate. Happiness or anger. Still, I’m deeply grateful for this journey - for everything tennis has given me, and for how much it’s helped me become a strong, passionate, hard-working woman,” she added.
The 31-year-old further added that it’s not over for her, and will share what’s next for her in the coming days. “Still, this is not over—not just yet. I have a few tournaments left. The first one is at home, at Roland Garros. My 14th consecutive time being part of it. And my last,” Garcia continued.
Garcia achieved significant success, winning 11 titles and reaching her career-high ranking of No. 4 in September 2018. Following her break from tennis in March 2022 due to foot injury, Garcia staged a comeback, securing several title wins including WTA Finals and then reaching the U.S. Open semifinals.
