French tennis player and former world number four, Caroline Garcia has pulled out of this month’s Madrid Open. Garcia has casted doubt due to a back issue, which comes at a time with the esteemed Roland Garros set to be played next month in the French capital. It is to be noted that the Mutua Madrid Open is set to be played from April 23 onwards with the final set to be played May 4.

While the men’s singles final will be played on May 4, the women’s singles will be held a day prior on May 3. The tournament proves to be key, seeing several players prepare themselves for the second Grand Slam of the year - the French Open, which this year will be held from May 19 till June 8.

Caroline Garcia doubtful for French Open after missing Madrid Open due to back injury

Speaking of the 31-year-old French international, Garcia’s took to social media to confirm her decision of missing the Madrid Open. However, she previously missed the Rouen Open after her second-round defeat in the Indian Wells and Miami.

In a post on her Instagram handle, Garcia wrote, “After more tests on my back, it’s clear I won’t be able to play in Madrid. I need to take some time for treatment and recovery. I’ll do everything I can to be ready for Rome, but the main goal is to arrive strong and healthy for Roland Garros.”

“It’s tough to accept. After the break last year, I came back feeling happier, clearer, and more motivated. The results weren’t there yet, but I truly believed in the path I was on. This setback hurts—but I’ll use it to come back stronger. Right now, it’s about controlling what I can, keeping perspective, and finding ways to embrace the journey—even on the hard days. Paris is still the dream. And I’ll keep fighting for it,” her further wrote.

Speaking of the French player, Garcia, who won the WTA Finals in 2022 and the US Open semifinals last year, has often carried the hopes to get hands on the Roland Garros. But as far as her stint in the French Open is concerned, she has never gone past the quarterfinals and will be hoping to end it this year, coming strong by regaining comeplete fitness.
