As the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League is all set to commence from March 26, IPL Chairman on Thursday confirmed that the upcoming season would be played in the presence of fans in the stadium. Notably, the decision has been taken after observing a sharp decline in Covid cases. Earlier, the matter was under discussion with the top brass of the IPL governing council during the meeting on Thursday (February 24).

Quoting Brijesh Patel, chairman of the IPL Governing Council, reports have suggested that the tournament will not take place in an empty stadium, and 25 to 50 per cent of fans will come. "The league round matches will be held in Maharashtra. In such a situation, according to the rules of the state government, fans will be allowed to come to the stadium. With this, it became clear that the current season of the T20 league will be held in the country itself," Patel said.

Venues for playoffs to be decided at later date

While IPL Governing Council was waiting for approval from Government, it seems they have got the nod. After the IPL Governing Council meeting. According to the information, 55 matches are to be played at Wankhede Stadium, DY Patil and Brabourne in Mumbai. There will also be 15 matches in Pune. All the teams have to play 4-4 games in Wankhede and DY Patil. Apart from this, they will have to play 3-3 matches in Pune and Brabourne. Meanwhile, the venues for the playoffs will be decided at a later date.

Due to the decreasing cases in the country, the T20 league will be conducted in India. Although earlier it was reported that Sri Lanka and South Africa are also in the race to organize the tournament. The entire season of IPL 2020 was conducted in UAE.
