Chelsea have had a dismal 2022-23 season by their standards as they finished 12th in the Premier League standings with 44 points, which is the Blues' lowest total in the league's history. Leeds have had an even worse season as they got relegated after their 4-1 loss against Tottenham. Chelsea came up with a brutal comeback to a dig from Leeds United nine months ago.

With their 12th finish, Chelsea registered their lowest finish since 1994 while Crystal Palace, who are placed at the 11th spot, finished above the Stamford Bridge giants for the first time in Premier League history.

Leeds beat Chelsea 3-0 at the Elland Road in November last year and incidentally, Chelsea's Twitter handle tweeted just moments before conceding the first goal, "Starting to assert ourselves." After the game, Leeds took a dig with the screenshot of Chelsea's Tweets during the match and tweeted, "Life comes at you fast."

Chelsea's Twitter replied to that with the caption, "It certainly does" after their relegation from the top tier of English football. The two teams have enjoyed a hostile rivalry historically, with the 1970 FA Cup final infamous for being one of the most violent games of football.

The Blues have been severely criticized by the fans for having a mentality of a ‘small club’ for their pettiness. As the Blues haven’t had a great season themselves rival fans quickly came in and took the opportunity to have a laugh at their expense.

Chelsea, meanwhile, finished the season with a 1-1 draw against Newcastle at Stamford Bridge and will be looking for massive improvement next season. Former Spurs boss, Mauricio Pochettino will take over and will try to get this club back in contention for the title.
