Chelsea set to rope in Red Bull Leipzig midfielder Christopher Nkunku next summer for £53 million: Reports

Earlier, Nkunku claimed that there are several clubs who have expressed keen interest in securing his services.

According to fresh reports , Chelsea is set to rope in Red Bull Leipzig midfielder Christopher Nkunku next summer. While speculations were floating around about French international being offered a decent signing from the Gurman Bundelsiga, the footballer has already gone through a medical ahead of his move to Stamford Bridge next summer.

Reports have also claimed that Chelsea is expected to pay £53 million fee to the 24-year-old Bundesliga's Player of the Year last season. He delivered some stellar performances for Leipzig. Earlier, Nkunku claimed that there are several clubs who have expressed keen interest in securing his services.

"It’s no secrets. There are clubs interested in me. Yes, it's flattering, but it's also flattering to have a club like Leipzig do everything to keep me as well. I'll have to reflect and make a decision. The World Cup is on the way and that's another factor to take into account," he was quoted in several media reports. Earlier in June, Nkunku signed a new contract with RB Leipzig which keeps him tied to the Bundesliga club until 2026.

"Nkunku has developed amazing skills and potential with us, we have decided not to give him away. The decision is an important step for us in term of sports and economic,’ RB Leipzig’s CEO Oliver Mintzlaff said in the summer. While Nkunku is likely to join Chelsea, West Ham’s Declan Rice and Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham are the other two reported target of the Blues. 

Bellingham is expected to trigger massive bidding war between some of the biggest clubs in the world. Liverpool, Real Madrid, Manchester United are all believes to be interested in the immensely talented 19-year-old.
