Cricketers pursue excellence, strive for greatness and love the sport. In return, it's the duty of the sport to love them back. And this is exactly something that's coming true for two distinguished icons of the game. Latest cricket news and updates provided by mainstream media suggest that Sir Clive Lloyd and Farokh Engineer are all set to have stands named after them at the famous Old Trafford, in Manchester. The famed venue will host the fourth Test of the ongoing series between hosts England and India.
Two great cricketers of their era, Sir Clive Lloyd, widely respected for inspiring his team to World Cup successes in the seventies, and Mr. Engineer, a great asset for India back in the day, are all set to be honoured by the famous Lancashire Cricket.
Having cricket stands named after them is Lancashire Cricket's way of extending respect to the West Indian cricketing legend and the Indian icon for their vast contributions towards the game and to Lancashire, in particular.
Clive Lloyd won ODI World Cup as captain of West Indies in 1975 and 1979
On his part, Sir Lloyd inspired his troops to two World Cup triumphs, in 1975 and 1979, respectively, and was associated with the Lancashire Cricket club for around two decades. An inspiring and courageous cricketer, he provided the groundwork for West Indian unity in the game. The present day generations look back at the time of Sir Lloyd and other legends like Sir Viv for giving their cricket a much-needed wind of glory and a voice for expression.
On the other hand, Mr. Engineer played for Lancashire for around 10 long years and was a key contributor towards the Club's successes from 1970 to 1975, where the iconic English club went on to win the Gillette Club, a success that had remained elusive for them for years together. His India career resulted in useful runs for the Test side and brilliant wicketkeeping that often anchored the team during difficult periods.
The deeds of the two cricketing stars who played, arguably speaking, in more simpler times back in the day continue to inspire the current generation.
