According to reports, Counter Strike 2 is all set to be released this month. Fresh reports have claimed that the new version is all set to be released and the tentative release date for the beta is in the month of March or April.
The reports have claimed that Counter-Strike would be an upgrade to the Source 2 engine. The creation of the game had been something of a priority for Valve’s team, which includes members that have overseen the development of previous iterations in the Counter-Strike franchise.
“The big priority is getting this out and then polishing it, fixing any bugs, and bringing it up to the level people expect from CS,” he noted. CS:GO currently runs on the original Source engine, which dates back as far as 2004. Notably, Source 2 is Valve’s newest iteration of the engine, released in 2014, and is already in use for Dota2, Artifact, Dota Underlords and Half-Life: Alyx.
In regard to maps, countless leaks and data mining have shown that Valve is working on a Source 2 version of maps, being tested as far back as 2020. In July 2022, leakers confirmed the list of maps that had Source 2 versions so far: Shoots, Inferno, Lake, Overpass, Shortdust, Italy. The reports have confirmed that skins will not be deleted as skins, knives, stickers, and other in-game items are incredibly important aspects of Valve’s business model, and removing these items, or not porting them over to a new version of the game would spoil the chances of millions of dollars of value.
