Early on Tuesday morning, West Indies completed a series whitewash as Australia clinched the third and final Test by 176-run margin at the Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica. After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Australia posted 225 runs on the board. In reply, West Indies struggled to get runs on the board and were dismissed at 143, giving Australia 82-run lead.

The visitors then extended their lead and eventually put 203-run target for the hosts to get a consolation win. However, the Aussie bowlers took the field with a different mindset as Mitchell Starc and Scott Boland run riot of the Windies lineup and dismissed them for 27, their second lowest total in Test cricket history.

CWI convenes emergency meeting with legends following 27 all-out

In the aftermath of the poor show with the bat in the final innings, the Roston Chase-led side have been under fire. In the wake of the same, Cricket West Indies (CWI) on Tuesday, July 15, called for an emergency meeting consisting of the legends of the game, like Sir Vivian Richards. The CWI President, Dr Kishore Shallow in a letter expressed pain and disappointment on Men in Maroon’s poor show.

In the letter, which was also extended to some legends of the game, including Brian Lara, Sir Viv Richards and Clive Lloyd, read, “As an immediate step, I have advised the Chair of the Cricket Strategy and Officiating Committee to convene an emergency meeting to review the recent test series against Australia, particularly the final match.”

“To strengthen the discussions, I have extended invitations to three of our greatest batsmen ever: Sir Clive Lloyd, Sir Vivian Richards, and Brian Lara. They will join past greats Dr. Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Dr. The Most Honourable Desmond Haynes, Ian Bradshaw, who already serve on the committee,” he further addressed.

This move comes seeing West Indies cricket team take a downward spiral in terms of performance. Once a reckoned team around the world, CWI has been struggling across formats with majority of their players focusing on T20 cricket, franchise leagues and others.
