After former Man United coach Ralf Ragnick recently revealed that he realized the problem the Red Devils were facing after just two weeks, reports have emerged that Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo asked Ragnick to drop captain Harry Maguire from the squad.
Manchester United are finally experiencing the sweet taste of victory after winning their last two Premier League matches under new boss Erik ten Hag. After losing their opening two Premier League games against Brighton and Brentford, United made a winning comeback against Liverpool and Southampton.
The Dutch coach, Erik ten Hag had benched senior players Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Maguire for United's clash against Liverpool and Southampton. While Cristiano made late appearances in both the matches, Maguire was left on the bench for the whole game.
According to Athletic, a group of players including Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane, Paul Pogba went up to Rangnick at Carrington in February this year to discuss clubs complications. Ronaldo wanted to pair with Edinson Cavani up front and directly called to drop club captain Harry Maguire.
Earlier, former coach Ralf Ragnick has stated that he identified the source of Manchester United's downfall 'after just two weeks'. Rangnick told Der Standard, "After just two weeks it was clear to me where the problems were and what would have to be done to fix them – but the question is whether you have the option of changing these things."
Rangnick was brought to Old Trafford in November 2021 to salvage the season following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's dismissal from the hot seat.
