Al-Nassr and Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo has been suspended for a game over his alleged gesture towards crowds in a Saudi Pro League match against Al-Shabab. With this development, the Portuguese star will not be available for Al-Alami’s next encounter against Al-Hazem, on February 29.
In their previous encounter against Al-Shabab, fans trolled Ronaldo by chanting Argentine icon Lionel Messi's name. Reacting to these chants, the 39-year-old was seen cupping his ear and repeatedly thrusting his hand near his pelvis, gesturing towards the Al-Shabab fans.
Cristiano Ronaldo will also be fined 20,000 Riyals, i.e.; $5,333 which he will pay to Al-Shabab as compensation for the costs of filing the complaint while half of the amount will go to the federation. The committee also clarified that the decision was not open for appeal.
Ronaldo and Talisca score in 3-2 win against Al-Shabab
In Al-Nassr’s previous match against Al-Shabab, the former thrashed the latter by a 3-2 margin with the efforts of Ronaldo and Talisca. But throughout the match, Al-Shabab fans repeatedly chanted “Messi, Messi’ targetting the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, who had already produced a penalty goal in the first half of the match.
After the completion of the match, a video of Cristiano Ronaldo surfaced on social media which was not covered live by the broadcasters. In this clip, the superstar footballer performed an obscene gesture at the crowd, leading to his one-match suspension.
