Former Bayern Munich player Lothar Matthaus believes Man United striker Cristiano Ronaldo is the best replacement for goal-machine Robert Lewandowski. In an interview, Matthaus has said that the transfer of Ronaldo to Bayern would be 'sexy'.

Manchester United will be unable to compete for the Champions League next season as they have failed to make it to the top four in the Premier League last season. As a result, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner has informed the club that he wants a summer transfer.

The 1990 FIFA World Cup winner has recently said that the Portuguese star is one of the best strikers of all-time. “Of course, it wouldn’t be a transfer with a view to the future. He’s 37 and would always make headlines. I’m also not sure whether he fits into Bayern’s system. But he’s still an outstanding goal scorer. He’s one of the best strikers of all time and would certainly score around 30 goals. Refinancing through shirt sales and things like that would be guaranteed,” Lothar Matthaus said in an interview with Sky.

Former West Germany captain has insisted that Bayern consider the 37-year-old an ideal replacement for the Poland international. “Ronaldo to Bayern would be sexy. You should at least think through the options. If Bayern think Cristiano is still physically able to really help for a year or two and that they can invest the Lewandowski fee more or less on Ronaldo, then I would consider it,” he added.

Transfer pundit Fabrizio Romano has denied the transfer rumours of Cristiano to Bayern, however, he has also said that the transfer of Lewandowski could change Bayern's stance. Recently, Sadio Mane completed a €41 million transfer to the Allianz Arena after spending six years with Liverpool.
