New Zealand defeated Sri Lanka in their last group stage match by 5 wickets with 160 balls to be spared and with this victory, they almost sealed their place in the semi-finals for the fourth place in the points table unless some miracle happens in the Afghanistan vs South Africa match at Ahmedabad (or) in the Pakistan vs England match at Kolkata.

New Zealand's NRR has given them a huge boost over sides like Pakistan and Afghanistan in the qualification of the 2023 WC semi-finals race.

Here, in this article, we will see if Pakistan and Afghanistan have any chance of qualifying for the 2023 WC semi-finals (or) not.

For Pakistan to qualify for the semi-finals of the 2023 WC:

- If Pakistan bat first against England, then they should win by a margin of around 287 runs.

For example if Pakistan

scores 300 runs then they should restrict England to 13 runs

scores 350 runs then they should restrict England to 62 runs

scores 400 runs then they should restrict England to 112 runs

scores 450 runs then they should restrict England to 161 runs

- If Pakistan bowls first against England, then they should win by a huge margin of around 284 balls to be spared. Since this looks impossible the only chance for Pakistan is to post a big total on board and beat England by a margin of 287 runs.

For Afghanistan to qualify for the semi-finals of the 2023 WC:

- Afghanistan should beat South Africa by a margin of 438 runs which seems to be practically impossible unless they manage to post a total of 500-plus runs on board.

- If Afghanistan bowls first then they stand eliminated from the 2023 World Cup semi-final race in the toss itself.
