In a huge heartbreak for India, Australia defeated the Women in Blue by 9 runs in the T20 Cricket tournament final to claim the first-ever gold medal in women's cricket at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. While Australia had won the toss and were racing to a massive total, India took wickets towards the end to keep them down to 161/8. Beth Mooney (61) and Meg Lanning (36) top-scored for Australia in a tense game.

In response, India looked in control of the run chase when captain Harmanpreet Kaur (65) and Jemimah Rodrigues (33) were out in the middle. However, as soon as the partnership was broken, India lost wickets in quick succession to hand Australia the advantage.

While Radha Yadav and Sneh Rana scalped 2 wickets for India, for Australia, it was Ashleigh Gardner who was the pick of the bowlers, scalping 3 wickets for 16 runs. In the high-stakes encounter, India also lost thee wickets to run-outs.
