In the latest news coming from the ongoing 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, Ghana boxer Shakul Samed has been suspended from the tournament. Samed is said to have failed the drug test as he tested positive for a banned substance on Day 1 of the games.

The Ghanaian boxer has been ruled out of the tournament with immediate effect. Although he will have a chance to provide further information on the same before any charge is issued on the same.

“His A sample was found to contain a prohibited substance (diuretic and masking agent - Furosemide). He has therefore been suspended with immediate effect. He and the Ghana Commonwealth Games Association have been informed, “ CWG said in a statement.

The CWG Federation further added that the organising committee has zero-tolerance policy to doping in sport.

“We seek to maintain the integrity of the Commonwealth Games by running comprehensive anti-doping programme that focuses equally on education, prevention and testing,” the statement further read.

Shakul Samed who was last seen during the Tokyo Olympics last year, was set to take on Luc Jean Rosalba of Mauritius. As the boxer failed to show up in the weigh-ins, his Mauritian opponent won with a walkover.
