India’s Judo player Sushila Devi made the nation proud as she won the silver medal in the Women’s 48kg category. Although the 27-year-old lost to South Africa's Michaela Whitebooi, Devi bagged a silver medal. This was the second silver medal for Sushila in the Games as she had already won at the 2014 Glasgow Games. With this medal, India's silver medal tally reached three.

Having defeated Priscilla Morand of Mauritius in the semifinal of the event, Devi entered the final game with high hopes. But she was undone by the agility of her South African opponent who claimed the match in the Golden Score period. Michaela Whitebooi and Sushila scored one Waza-Ari point in the allotted time forcing the game to go into the Golden period.

Whitebooi pinned down Devi to the mat to score the first point in the Golden Score period and hence was crowned the winner. Nonetheless, Sushila Devi walked away with a silver medal. In the match, both players received a second Shido apiece. Both judokas were on two penalties each.

Earlier in the day, Shushila Devi Likmabam defeated Mauritius' Priscilla Morand in the women's 48kg semifinals at the Commonwealth Games 2022 on Monday. Commonwealth Games 2014 silver medalist Shushila Devi beat Priscilla Morand of Mauritius in 2:52 minutes in the judo women - 48kg semi-final. Earlier Shushila thrashed Harriet Bonface in 1 minute and 19 seconds in the judo women -48kg quarter-final at Birmingham 2022
