India continued their dominance in table tennis after the women's team took a 3-0 lead in the tie against South Africa earlier on the day. The men's group match started with the men's doubles pair of Harmeet Desai and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran going up against Barbados pair of Farley and Knight.

The Indian colours continued to fly high with the doubles pair taking the game in three straight sets. After the winning start, the action shifted to nine-time medallist Sharath Kamal. The four-time Commonwealth Games gold-medallist started by thumping victory in the first set 11-5.

He continued to reign over Barbados' Ramon Maxwell in the the second and third set, clinching it 11-3, 11-3.

Eyeing his fifth Commonwealth Games win, Sharath spoke on his run coming into the games. “In 2006 when I won a medal for the first time, people started to know me. I have a special bonding with Commonwealth Games. I have won medals every time I have played at this event and hope I will be able to do so this time as well and make my country proud", he said.

India will next face Singapore later on Day 1 of the ongoing Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022.
