Amid all sorts of discussion regarding the revamp of India's coaching staff after the conclusion of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, former South Africa fast bowler Dale Steyn expressed his desire of wanting to be India's bowling coach. While Steyn is one of the legends of the game and controlled the ball like no other in his prime, his addition to the Indian team's coaching unit would not at all be a bad idea.
However, by the looks of it, Steyn would not be considered for the job. For the uninitiated, India's coaching staff will be changing as current India bowling coach Bharat Arun is not likely to get a new contract. Moreover, even head coach Ravi Shashtri's term is coming to an end.
Although reports have confirmed Rahul Dravid's name as the next head coach, the BCCI would want to follow the due procedures before the official confirmation. It is also being learned that Dravid's trusted Paras Mhambrey could be the new bowling coach for Team India with still some doubts over batting coach Vikram Rathour.
What would Steyn say to MS Dhoni?
Steyn expressed his desire while replying to a post from ESPNCricinfo which mentioned "If you are on the phone with MS Dhoni, what would you tell him." To this the 38-year-old cheekily replied, "Sign me up as bowling coach."
While MS Dhoni recently led Chennai Super Kings to their record fourth title win after they beat Kolkata Knight Riders in the final at Dubai, he has now joined the Men in Blue as the mentor of the team for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021.
"He (MSD) has got massive experience. He is quite excited himself. He has always been a mentor for all of us. Younger guys who are playing their first major tournaments at early stages of career will benefit," India captain Virat Kohli said on Dhoni's involvement with the team at the World event.
"His eye for intricate details and practical advice will help improve the game by one or two percent. Absolutely delighted to have him...(His) presence will not only boost morale but also increase confidence that we already have," he added.
