The Dallas Mavericks are nearing a deal to sign veteran guard Kemba Walker, according to multiple reports. The Mavericks are set to waive Facundo Campazzo to make room on the roster. The start of the 2022-23 season has been uncertain for Walker as he was traded to the Detroit Pistons from the New York Knicks. Shams Charania of Stadium and The Athletic was one of the first to report this development.

In October, Walker was waived by Detroit costing them $9.2 million. Walker's time in New York was full of disappointment, as he was constantly rotated while struggling with consistency and injuries. Walker averaged 11.6 points and 3.5 assists per game in 37 appearances after he was signed on a two-year, $17.9 million deal.

The four-time All-Star had a few moments of brilliance as put up 44 points against the Washington Wizards last December. He also managed to get his first triple-double of the year in the Christmas Day win over the Atlanta Hawks.

But New York continued to struggle as a team and hence opted to give younger players like Quentin Grimes and Miles McBride larger roles. Walker is hoping to bounce back in his 12th NBA season, as he joins a team that has high expectations after reaching the Western Conference Finals last year.

Whereas in Dallas, Luka Dončić continued his rise towards the upper echelon of the NBA, but the team needs additional scoring depth in the backcourt with Spencer Dinwiddie and Tim Hardaway Jr. After Dallas suffered a fourth straight defeat, Walker could provide a much-needed offensive spark for Jason Kidds’ team.
