It hasn't been an easy few hours for Daniel Christian. While he had a tough outing on the cricket field while playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore against Kolkata Knight Riders in Sharjah on Monday, post the team's defeat, the Australian and his partner have been on the receiving end of a lot of social media abuse.

While Christian managed to score nine runs of eight balls before being run-out in the first innings, later Sunil Narine took him to the cleaners and smashed him for three sixes as he ended with forgettable figures of none for 29 from 10 balls. The 22 runs which the Aussie cricketer conceded in his first over changed the course of the match completely in favour of the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Post Bangalore's season-ending four-wicket defeat against Kolkata, not only Christian but even his partner has been receiving a lot of flack online. So terrible was the situation that eventually Christian had to put out a message to stop.

"I didn’t have a great game tonight, but that’s sport. However, please leave her out of it," Christian said on his Instagram story.

Here is what he posted on Instagram:

Christian's fellow Australian and RCB cricketer Glenn Maxwell also put out a message on social media to stop the trolls. He advised the netizens to try and become a decent person instead of spreading abuse online. He was quick to add a message of gratitude to "REAL fans" for supporting the team through thick and thin.

"Some of the garbage that has been following on social media is absolutely disgusting! We are human beings who are giving our best each and every day. Try being a decent person maybe instead of spreading abuse," Maxwell wrote in a post on Twitter.

“Thank you to the REAL fans that shared love and appreciation for the players giving their all! Unfortunately there is some horrible people out there that make social media a horrible place to be. It is unacceptable!!! Please don’t be like them," he added.

Here is Maxwell's tweet:
