The world has once again come together for helping Ukrainaina amidst the Russian invasion of their country. The Russians started sending their forces into Ukraine on 24 February 2022 and since then the civilian death toll has crossed a total of 900 while another 1,459 are wounded according to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
Recently, former Manchester United and Real Madrid player, David Beckham has handed over his Instagram with more than 71 million followers to Dr Iryna, the head of Kharkiv’s regional perinatal centre where she is helping mothers and their newborns in the crisis.
Beckham posted a clip notifying his followers on March 20 where he said, "Thanks to your donations, the oxygen generators they have received are helping newborns survive in appalling conditions. The 41-year-old along with his wife Victoria Beckham, former singer with the Spice Girls, have reportedly donated £1million to help fund the relief oraganisations in Ukraine.
Dr Iryna, who also serves as a pediatric anesthesiologist, notified the public that the patients were shifted into the basement on the first day of the invasion. "It was a terrible three hours that we spent together," she said.
"Unfortunately, we can’t take babies who are in intensive care to the basement because they rely on life-saving equipment. The first days were the most difficult. We had to learn how to work with bombings and strikes," she added.
In another story, Dr Iryna elaborated on how she has been working round the clock to help the people in need around her. She has announced that doctors, nurses will not give up taking care of people in these crises.
The story said: "My workday is 24/7 now, I work all day. We are probably risking our lives, but we don’t think about it at all. We love our work. Doctors and nurses here, we worry, we cry, but none of us will give up."
