It is now reported that Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea is set to extent his current contract with Italian club Fiorentina for another season. De Gea was brought on board by La Viola in August 2024 and his current deal was set to expire soon. As reported by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, it is understood that De Gea’s contract will be extended for one more year making it valid till June 2026. Fiorentina are reported to be delighted with the goalie’s performance in this season as he has featured in 31 games for the club and has maintained 10 clean sheets in the process.
The ex-Atletico Madrid academy and first team player was a mainstay for Manchester United for many years where he went on to win multiple accolades. However, he was casted out of the team by ex-manager Erik ten Hag as he felt his performances were not good enough anymore. De Gea left Old Trafford in the summer of 2023 and was without a club for an entire year before being picked up by Fiorentina in 2024. Since then, he has impressed in the Serie A, delivering multiple match-winning performances since.
De Gea drops another banger performance against AC Milan in latest 2-2 draw
In the recent Serie A encounter between Fiorentina and AC Milan, the Spanish shot-stopper dropped another banger performance by making multiple crucial saves to help his team come out level at the end of the game. He stopped a point-blank acrobatic effort from Rafael Leao and then made an incredible double save on efforts from Reijnders and Pulisic.
Talking about the match, Fiorentina got two goals withing the first 10 minutes of the match at San Siro but Milan was able to equalize with two goals in the two halves of the match. Although a highly contested match prevailed, the scoreline remained 2-2 at the end of the 90 minutes.
